We asked local teens about back-to-school trends as they were coming out of Urban Outfitters.

Ollie Lawton and Bella Greenbacher, 16, Northampton High School juniors

Predictions: Olle: “I think we are going to see a lot more Air Force Ones, shoe lace belts. I’m looking to layer and wear more accessories, even jewelry. People are trying to dress “hard.”

Bella: “Like ‘90s gangster skater kids, oversized T-shirts, but also there is a cutesy look with barrettes and pigtails. Saucony sneakers, I just got a pair and have gotten a lot of compliments.

It’s over: Bella: “Tube tops, they have become boring, on any given day last year I’d see five different people wearing the same tube top.”

Ollie: “Mom jeans.”

Tiernan Pyle and Abbie Denhart, 17, NHS

Predictions: Abbie: “Cargo pants are super in style, and camo. I really want black and white ones with a lot of pockets. (They have a pair at Urban.)”

Tiernan: “Last year everyone one wore jean shorts and tube tops, and now it’s more bigger pants, patterned bottoms and looking different from everyone else.”

Sophia Varelakis, sophomore, Minnechaug High School

Footwear: “I’m defiantly set with my Airforce Ones and my Birks.”

It’s over: “I don’t really like the pukka shell necklaces, I like them more for your ankle.”

Katie Lienert, Clara Stokes, Charlie Kidd, Izzy Mcclements, NHS grads, heading to college

Predictions: Katie: “Baggy mom jeans, as opposed to skinny jeans.”

Izzy: “Clueless vibes, plaid pants, early 2000s comeback, but I hope low rise jeans never come back!”
