NORTHAMPTON — A 31-year-old Holyoke woman was arraigned in Northampton District Court on charges of stealing more than $2,500 from an area nonprofit.
Alexandra Cooper of Holyoke pleaded not guilty Aug. 27 to a single charge of larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme. An attorney was appointed for her and she was released on personal recognizance.
According to police, Cooper made $2,765 in withdrawals and purchases on a Westfield Bank debit card belonging to the New North Citizens’ Council. The card had been in the possession of a person known to Cooper who works for the nonprofit.
On its website, the New North Citizens’ Council says that its mission “is to provide advocacy, public and human services to Hampden County residents with an emphasis on the Hispanic/Latino community for the purpose of enhancing the preservation and support of the family resulting in the improvement of quality of life.”
Police said Cooper told them she used the debit card after she had relapsed and was using heroin and cocaine. Her next scheduled court date is Oct. 1.
