SOUTH DEERFIELD — Three people were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday morning after overdosing on drugs at an undisclosed industrial site.
Deerfield Police, South County EMS, the South Deerfield Fire Department and Whately Police were alerted to a man down for unknown reasons at 10:30 a.m. , according to a post on the Deerfield Police Department’s Facebook page.
After arriving at the scene, responders were informed about another unresponsive person inside a building. That person was removed by police officers and emergency medical technicians, and a third person started exhibiting similar symptoms.
It was learned the three people used a drug they believed was cocaine. The three were treated by South County EMS with Narcan. According to Deerfield Police, drug dealers sometimes mix cocaine with heroin and fentanyl.
The South Deerfield Fire District checked the building with air monitoring equipment and determined the industrial site was safe.
Two of the patients were taken by South County EMS to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. The Amherst Fire Department took the other to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
In its Facebook post, the Deerfield Police Department recommended that anyone struggling with addiction reach out to the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region at opioidtaskforce.org.
