WILLIAMSBURG — Two Ludlow residents face drug charges after a traffic stop allegedly led to the seizure of more than 2,500 bags of heroin and over an ounce of marijuana Thursday evening.

According to a post on the Williamsburg Police and Fire Department’s Facebook page, an officer pulled over a Honda Accord on Route 9 for a motor vehicle violation. The post does not specify why Williamsburg police pulled the car over.

Following a “brief investigation,” the officer allegedly discovered more than 2,500 wax paper bags of what is suspected to be heroin, weighing in at approximately 55 grams, inside a backpack in the car. Police said they also found more than an ounce of marijuana in the backpack.

The vehicle’s passenger, Rene Amaris, 22, of Ludlow, was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, conspiracy to violate drug law, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug and distribution of a Class D drug, according to police.

The unidentified 20-year-old driver of the vehicle, also from Ludlow, will be summoned to court on charges of trafficking heroin and conspiracy to violate drug law, police said.
