HOLYOKE — A natural gas leak Tuesday on Mueller Road has led to the evacuation of at least 20 homes.

According to a Facebook post by the Holyoke Fire Department, a third-party construction company struck a pipe with a loader at the Holyoke Gas & Electric facility on Mueller Road. There is no fire and no injuries, but the leak has closed parts of Apremont Highway and forced the evacuation of homes from Dupuis to Rock Valley roads, including Holly Meadow Road, said Fire Department Captain Kevin Cavagnac.

Holyoke Gas & Electric is working to isolate the flow of gas from a broken valve, the post states.

The leak was first reported to the fire department at 8:48 a.m., Cavagnac said, and the gas company expects repairs to be completed by 7:30 p.m.

“We don’t anticipate any damage to people’s homes or meters,” Cavagnac said. “This is an isolated incident.”

Cavagnac said the fire department has two fire trucks on scene.
