I congratulate Jim Reis for his excellent letter of Dec. 2 in which he cites many reasons why it has been a mistake for the UMass football program to compete at the elite level.
One would think that by now the decision-makers at UMass would see that such an upgrade is unrealistic.
Having earned a graduate degree from UMass and served on the staff of the health service, I have been a longtime supporter of the university. Unfortunately, in recent years the football program has done the school a disservice.
UMass should consider a return to playing football with its traditional rivals in New England.
