For the 24th year, the Recital Chorus directed by Margery Heins will host a holiday concert of vocal and choral music this Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Church on Severance Street in Shelburne Falls.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the free holiday program. Donations (cash or check) will be received at the door to benefit the Hilltown Churches Food Pantry.

The chorus is made up of community singers and high school and college students. Friday’s concert will feature traditional carols and seasonal music as well as rounds, spirituals, religious compositions and works from the Renaissance period to the present.

Composers will include Hassler, Vierdanck, Handel, Brahms, Schubert, Reger and Franck. According to a press statement, music will be sung in several languages, in unison songs, in pieces for treble chorus and for mixed voices, and in music for chorus and recorders.

Soloists and small groups will perform. The audience will be invited to join in on familiar carols.

Soloists will include Mohawk Trail Regional High School student Octavia Crawford, soprano; Greenfield Community College students Julie Lussier, soprano, and John Atkinson, tenor; and Leyden resident Cecilia Tusinski, soprano.

Most singers in the Recital Chorus are private voice students of Heins who study at her studio in Shelburne Falls and at Greenfield Community College. All voice students learn solos in their lessons. They also focus on the importance of small ensemble singing as they become members of the Recital Chorus, the statement says.

Heins will conduct the ensembles. She is also director of the Greenfield Community College Chorus and director of the Ashfield Congregational Church Choir. Amy Roberts-Crawford, a local pianist, organist and musical theater director, will accompany.
