Won’t you join me in helping to reduce carbon in our atmosphere? If you are like most Americans, busy with work or other important activities, and have promised yourself at times to become involved with addressing global warming, you are not alone.
Perhaps you don’t quite believe humans are impacting the warming of the planet. Whatever your values and beliefs, I am asking you to consider what we common citizens are doing to help resolve the carbon problem. A few years ago, I became involved with Citizen’s Climate Lobby (CCL), which empowers everyday people to work together on climate solutions.
Along with other groups across the country, we gather once a month to focus on working with our elected officials from a place of respect, gratitude and appreciation. We move our leaders toward bipartisan climate solutions.
As a result, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019(HR763) was created. This bill is proposing a fee to be collected at the mines or wellheads where fossil fuel is extracted, with the money collected allocated to Americans to spend as they choose.
The government would not keep any of the money collected. The hope is to encourage those who pollute to reduce their carbon foot print. There are two ways you can help. First, call your representative and encourage him or her to support HR763, and two, join a CCL group, or support this organization financially.
I feel less overwhelmed with wanting to make a difference after becoming involved with CCL. You will too, knowing your children and grandchildren can live in a world with clean air. Let us commit along with other countries to savor the beauty of our only home, Earth.
As I write this letter I know I am blessed to be living in the hilltowns with beautiful pines surrounding our home, the snow quietly blanketing the ground, fall gladly giving over to the winter’s deep sleep. Listen, let us wake up and reduce our carbon footprint. Please join me in support of HR763.
