AMHERST — The University of Massachusetts Amherst community is mourning two students who died this month.
On Wednesday, Associate Vice Chancellor David C. Vaillancourt sent out an email informing the university community of the death of Aidan Smith, a sophomore from Springfield who studied plant and soil sciences.
Days earlier, on Dec. 5, Vaillancourt announced that senior Colin Radon had died. Radon, of West Springfield, studied horticultural science and was also involved with the UMass Hydro Farm, according to Vaillancourt’s email.
“During this difficult time, I urge you to reach out for assistance, or direct others to do so as appropriate,” Vaillancourt wrote in the emails. “There are many on campus ready to assist.”
Vaillancourt pointed to the Center for Counseling and Psychological Health, Dean of Students Office and Faculty and Staff Assistance Program as resources available to students.
