I read with interest the article about the opening of the Newell Brands’ research and development facility in South Deerfield. Obviously it is an economic boon to the area and a lot of people worked hard to bring it here.
However, I hope that the research Newell Brands conducts will include the effects that “scented” products can have on chemically sensitive people. Three members of my family are seriously affected and in order for them to participate in our holiday gatherings and annual family reunion, everyone has to be fragrance free, an almost impossible task for the 50 people involved.
There are conditions with terrible symptoms that are triggered by body washes, laundry products, scented candles, cosmetics and many other products. In some cases, once you’ve been triggered it gets worse. I believe there are local doctors who know a lot about this and would help one of the Gazette’s superb journalists do some digging.
