Sheirer’s column a case of here we go again

I’ve found John Sheirer’s monthly columns both fascinating and entertaining. I always ask myself: “How many words or paragraphs must be read before the name ‘Trump’ pops up!”

One can’t help but wonder what Mr. Sheirer would write about if he didn’t have Trump to criticize? It’s generally within his first two or three paragraphs before we see the name “Trump” appear. Once I see that name, I just roll my eyes, lean back in my chair and think, “Well, here we go again!”

But this month I was disappointed by the fact I had to go through six paragraphs of his basketball prowess, or lack thereof, before he finally segues into his intended goal of chastising Trump. Allow me to touch on a couple of items that irked me. Mr. Sheirer attacks the Electoral College, stating it’s an “outdated affirmative action program” designed to benefit less qualified Republican presidential candidates.

Are you kidding? Just look at the congressional members standing behind House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after an impeachment hearing. Five of the six are in support of impeachment are all from either California or New York, with the sixth being our own Congressman Richard Neal from Massachusetts.

Mr. Sheirer, have you ever viewed a map reflecting the blue and red voting results after a national election? What you’re suggesting is that only the coastal areas of our country be allowed to tell the rest of our citizens how things should be run. That scenario, sir, would end up as a national disaster.

Mr. Sheirer also mentioned “fake 2016 scandals like Hillary’s emails.” Again, are you kidding? What’s “fake” about her destroying 33,000 emails after a subpoena? But that’s only the beginning. How about the issues surrounding millions of missing dollars in Haiti? The huge U.S. uranium sale to Russia? The four Americans murdered in Benghazi, including the United States ambassador! I’m left only to think this: Thank God we still have the Electoral College!
