For the past several years I’ve participated in trying to bring to light the issues at the senior center. The recent letter from Mary Lastowski’s daughter, Lynda Broadhurst, was the best summary of how the community feels and what we need from the mayor — now.
I truly believe that everyone has their strengths and I believe that the current director has strengths, just not face-to-face with people. She appears to have skills at program development and management. Perhaps there is a place for her on the mayor’s staff. However, she should not be the mayor’s appointment to the seniors.
Mary Lastowski was respected by all who knew her and loved by all close to her. She won the “volunteer of the year” award several times and was given those awards by the mayor himself. Mary’s treatment by the director not only should not have happened in the first place, but if the mayor is truly behind those awards, there should be consequences to any member of his staff who shows such disrespect to others.
Mayor, when are you going to treat the seniors of this city with the respect they deserve?
