Thank you for the continued coverage of the problem with the Northampton Senior Center’s leadership. It is important that we seniors, especially those of us who don’t frequent the center often, know what is going on there.

I was most interested in the recent letter from Lynda Lastowski Broadhurst (“Change needed for senior center leadership,” Dec. 28), and upset to read how the new director had treated her mother, Mary. She was the warden in our ward, the person in charge, and she was a delight to work with. I don’t know how other wardens handled voters with problems, but when one came up in our ward, Mary dropped everything to help the would-be voter.

Mary looked through list after list and made numerous calls to City Hall trying to rectify the problem. In almost all cases, she was able to permit the voter to cast their ballot, all the while keeping a friendly and positive attitude.

Everyone liked and respected Mary Lastowski. She had been the “friendly face” at the Senior Center for years and we will all miss her.
