HOLYOKE — Police are investigating an incident in which a man was shot in the leg at the intersection of Main and Sargeant streets Thursday evening.

Holyoke Police Lt. James Albert said officers responded at 6:45 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the intersection. Before police arrived, Albert said, a male victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his right leg was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield by a friend.

Detectives are now conducting interviews as part of their investigation, and police are searching for a white Volkswagen Passat that may have been connected to the shooting, Albert said. No arrests have been made.

The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, along with state troopers, assisted Holyoke police.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is encouraged to contact the Holyoke Police Criminal Investigations Bureau at 413-322-6940.
