HADLEY — A handful of new businesses are getting ready to open along the busy Route 9 corridor in the new year.

At the recently built plaza in front of Mountain Farms Mall, where an L.L. Bean opened in the fall, a Sport Clips will take over one of two spaces remaining between the 110 Grill restaurant and an expected Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Sport Clips, which specializes in cutting hair for men and boys, got permission from the Planning Board this week for installing its signs.

Between that plaza and South Maple Street, in a former building that housed Manny’s TV and Appliances before that business moved to a site closer to the Coolidge Bridge. An Orangetheory Fitness opens Monday. A ribbon-cutting sponsored by the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce takes place at noon.

At the Hadley Corner, in front of the Home Depot store and across from Mountain Farms Mall, a new restaurant called Joy Bowl, which serves Hawaiian-style fish and other dishes, will be coming soon. That restaurant replaces a shuttered Sweet Frog frozen yogurt spot in the plaza that also includes Starbucks and Aspen Dental.

Eugene Crowley, the property developer, told planners that Joy Bowl will be a fast-casual restaurant in the style of the nearby Chipotle.

Meanwhile, at 220 Russell St., a portion of the 7,500 square feet last used as offices for the former Berkshire Families and Children, now known as 18 Degrees Family Services for Western Massachusetts and based in West Springfield, will be used by Aclarity, a water purification company that began at the University of Massachusetts.

Property owner Barry Roberts of Amherst informed the Planning Board that Aclarity will use 1,355 square feet for its continued laboratory testing. The remainder of the space might be used by other UMass spinoffs, he said.
