The Amherst Regional girls basketball team defeated Mount Greylock, 36-24, to qualify for the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Tournament, Wednesday night in Williamstown.
Delaney MacPhetres scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Hurricanes (10-2).
Amherst is back in the postseason after a year away.
“It would feel good if I had not coached a game of basketball that set the game back 20 years,” Amherst coach Ralph Loos said. “It was painful. It was an ugly game. We turned it over a million times. We were held scoreless (in a quarter) for the first time in my coaching career. It was ugly.”
Greenfield 58, Smith Academy 40 — Bailey McCoy and Emma Kelly scored a team-high six points for the Falcons (5-7).
Smith Academy and the Green Wave (7-4) were tied at 9-9 after the first quarter.
Frontier Regional 50, Easthampton 30 — Marie Diemand and Amelia Sobieski each scored 16 points in a home victory. Kaitlyn Mackin added 11 points for the Red Hawks (6-3).
Maria Belfakih led the Eagles (6-5) with 10 points, and Lauren Morse had nine.
Monson 72, Easthampton 63 — Gabe Colenback sank four 3s and scored 16 points, but the Eagles lost at home. Mike Brown scored 14. Owen Morse added 10 points, while Mateo Navarro had nine for Easthampton (2-11).
Ware 61, Hampshire Regional 54 — The Raiders couldn’t overcome 25 turnovers at home.
Hampshire trailed 15-6 after the first quarter before responding with 19 in the second to cut the deficit to three points.
Justin Forest led Hampshire (5-6) with 26 points and made three 3s.
Eighth grader Dylan Rohan scored a career-high 12 points, and Jamil Rodriguez added eight.
Greenfield 7, Easthampton 4 — Bryan Baumann tallied two goals and two assists, as the Green Wave won at Lossone Rink.
Jacob Bryant (two goals, assist) and Aidan Roche (two assists, goal) had three points each. Sean O’Sullivan found the net twice. Mike McGoldrick and Adam Savoy had an assist each for Greenfield (9-2, 6-0 Wright). Riley Drew saved 26 of the 27 shots he faced before making way to backup Josh Bondroux, who had four saves.
Garren Fugiel netted a hat trick for the Eagles. Jake Delisle had two assists. Matt Sullivan and Pete Sullivan each distributed an assist, while Tyler Galpin scored a goal for Easthampton (1-6-1, 0-2-2).
Jayden Darling stopped 27 shots.
