CHICOPEE — A South Hadley man suspected of committing an armed robbery at a Chicopee liquor store was arrested on Thursday.

Colin Clegg, 27, faces charges of committing an armed and masked robbery and possession of a firearm without a license. He also had an outstanding warrant, according to Chicopee Police.

Officers were called to Lighthouse Liquors at 856 Memorial Drive on Thursday at 12:35 p.m. after the store had reportedly been robbed by a man with a shotgun who had possibly left the scene in a truck, according to statement by Police Officer Michael Wilk on the department’s Facebook page.

While searching the area, Chicopee Police Sgt. Steve Fopp found a truck matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle near a trailer at the Westover Mobile Home Park. Fopp called for backup and saw Clegg exit the trailer and go to the truck, Wilk wrote, where officers spoke with Clegg, who allegedly “gave conflicting statements about driving the truck.” Police also discovered that Clegg was the owner of the truck, according to Wilk.

Police arrested Clegg after they found that he has an outstanding warrant, and upon further investigation, Police determined that Clegg was also the suspect in the armed robbery. Police also located a partially-concealed shotgun in the back of Clegg’s car, Wilk wrote.

Clegg was taken to the police department and held without bail, and later arraigned in district court.
