AMHERST — An unidentified man who entered a Main Street apartment where he didn’t belong early on the morning of Sept. 15 was not identified, despite punching a resident during an altercation.
Detective Marcus Humber said officers responded at 1:46 a.m. to the home where the male intruder said he was looking for his friends.
When he was told he was at the wrong location, the man got into an argument, Humber said. Though a physical assault occurred, no medical attention was required, and the tenants told officers that they didn’t want to press charges.
The incident was one of two allegedly involving people getting into private homes, according to police.
Two people initially arrested Sept. 14 at 4:01 a.m. on break-in and trespassing charges later had those charges dropped without any further legal action. Police had gone to the home at the South East Street home near the Fort River School, where a man and woman were found sleeping on a couch.
While police responded to several parties and noise complaints, only two arrests related to those calls were made.
Megan Rose Deshaies, 19, of 4 Susan Drive, Easthampton, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct Sept. 13 at 11:38 p.m after she was observed flailing her arms and raising her fists in an attempt to fight people in the area of Phillips and Allen streets, Humber said.
Benjamin Simpson, 19, of Rutland, Vermont, was arrested at 11:32 p.m. Sept. 14 on charges of resisting arrest, being a minor in possession of alcohol and violating the town’s open container bylaw when he was approached by officers on Nutting Avenue and Phillips Street who asked him to dump his can of Natural Light. Instead, he ran from them toward the Southwest area of the University of Massachusetts campus before being apprehended after an extended foot chase, Humber said.
Police summoned to court three people for violating the open container bylaw and four people for being minors in possession of alcohol, and warned six people for open container violations.
Police issued a $300 citation to a 21-year-old man who purchased a keg in Hadley and tried to bring it to Eames Place without registering it.
