The Holyoke High School boys basketball team defeated Northampton, 68-55, on Monday at Holyoke High School.

Jael Cabrera (16 points) had 13 first-half points while Pat Gubala (14) added 10 on two 3-pointers as the Purple Knights (8-5, 3-2 Valley League) inched closer to qualifying for the playoffs with the win at home.

Holyoke led 38-21 at halftime behind Cabrera and Gubala.

Jesus Ibarra finished with 11 points and Aidan Consedine added seven. Ibarra and Consedine combined for 13 points in the third quarter as Holyoke stretched its lead to 58-37 entering the fourth.

Seth Finnessey had a game-high 21 points for the Blue Devils (4-11, 1-4).

Frontier Regional 54, Mohawk Trail 43 โ€”Sean Richter scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Red Hawks (12-3, 5-0 Hampshire North).

โ€œ(Richter) has been a rock for us all season long,โ€ Frontier coach Ben Barshefksy said. โ€œOne thing you know we will get out of Sean is his competitive fire. It never wavers. When heโ€™s looking for a shot offensively and heโ€™s aggressive, yet staying balanced, heโ€™s experienced success.โ€

Central 81, Amherst Regional 45 โ€” Mike Camora scored nine points for the Hurricanes (6-8, 2-3 Valley). Isa Castro-McCauley chipped in seven points.

Greenfield 69, Smith Academy 36 โ€” Caden Guimond had 11 points and Aiden Pedersen added 10 rebounds, but the Falcons (3-12, 1-4 Hampshire North) fell on the road.

Greenfield (10-4, 4-1) qualified for the postseason with the win.

Hampden Charter 66, Granby 46 โ€”Ryan Gaughan scored a team-high 13 points for the Rams (7-7). Nathan Breault chipped in 11 points.

West Springfield 66, Easthampton 60 โ€”Nate Morse scored 14 points for the Eagles (2-14). Owen Morse chipped in 13 points.

Hockey

Belchertown 5, Easthampton 1 โ€” Francis Nigro scored twice, while Chris Buffone, James Greene (assist) and Andrew Fijal (assist) each had one goal as the Orioles won at the Mullins Center Practice Rink.

Francis Henderson had two assists and Ethan Rajpold made 36 saves for Belchertown (6-5-2), which led 2-0 after the first and 4-0 after the second.

Garren Fugiel scored off a feed from Matt Sullivan for the Eagles (1-9-1). Jayden Darling made 20 saves.
