HATFIELD — Memorial Town Hall will not be accessible to the public and many employees for most of the week of Feb. 10 because of an ongoing code-compliance project.

Town Administrator Marlene Michonski said Wednesday that the installation of pipes for a fire suppression system will necessitate the building’s closure most days next week.

But due to a deadline to register to vote in the March 3 primary, the town clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 12.

As the new sprinkler pipes are installed on the first floor, other offices will either be closed or those employees will work elsewhere, such as in the training room at the neighboring emergency services building.

“Some employees will be working remotely,” Michonski said. In addition, she also anticipates that employees will be able to respond to phone messages and emails.

During the weeks of Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 2, offices will have limited access as part of the continued $2.24 million project that also includes installing an exterior ramp and an elevator. The work is supposed to be completed by May 1.

The public is encouraged to contact offices directly to learn about their hours at 247-9200.

For those who need transfer station stickers, which have been sold at Town Hall, residents can go to the Straits Road facility this Saturday, Feb. 12, Feb. 15, Feb. 19 and Feb.22. Hours of operation on Wednesdays are noon to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cash and checks are accepted for the stickers.
