AMHERST — The Amherst College men’s hockey team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight games, defeating Bowdoin 5-2, Saturday at Orr Rink.

The five goals were each scored by a different player: Sean Wrenn, Joey Verkerke, Patrick Daly, Matteo Mangiardi and Connor Merrill (assist).

There was a total of 32 penalty minutes. Each team had eight power plays. Bowdoin went 0-for-8 in the man advantage.

“You can get a lot of momentum off of penalty kills,” Amherst goalie Giancarlo Ventre. “Obviously you hate taking penalties … but the fact that we were able to battle through created some energy for us and I think it really helped us win this game.”

The only power-play goal came on a nifty move where senior forward Patrick Daly slide the puck past Bowdoin goalie Alex Zafonte.

The power-play situations kept the line changes active.

“Different guys kill penalties. Some guys go on the power play, so you’ve got to make sure those guys get enough rest in between shifts and make sure you get into a rhythm,” Amherst assistant coach T.J. Syner said. “Our guys managed it really well. We’re really happy with how they did.”
