■The Common Reader, by Rev. Titus Strong, A.M., second edition, a valuable school book, has just been received and is for sale at the office of the Gazette. Price 37 1/2 cents single copy.
■Wm. Swan offers for sale one of the best farms of its size in the town of Northampton. It comprises a suitable proportion of tillage, meadow, pasture and woodland. It has an excellent barn and other out houses. The dwelling house is remarkably pleasantly situated on the county road a few rods south west of Northampton bridge.
■Joseph Sincage of Prospect Court, who is employed at the Northampton Garage, left this morning for the Delco laboratories at Dayton, Ohio, where he is to take a special course in starting and lighting in the Delco system.
■A large number of tickets have been sold for the lecture by William Butler Yeats, the Irish poet and playwright and leader of the Irish theatre movement, in the Academy of Music tomorrow evening on “A Theatre of the People,” under the auspices of the Hampshire Bookshop.
■Dorothy S. Ainsworth of Northampton, founder and former president of the International Association of Physical Education and Sports for Girls and Women, will be decorated by the Japanese government. The Smith College professor will receive the Order of the Sacred Treasure for her contributions to women’s athletic education and activities in Japan.
■A huge ice jam on the Mill River behind the brass shop dam in Haydenville has caused flooding up to within a foot of Rte. 9. The water and ice pose a threat to several bridges and factories located below the dam in Williamsburg and Northampton.
