The UMass women’s lacrosse team scored six of the final seven goals to beat No. 5 Boston College, 15-11, Saturday at Garber Field.

It was the program’s first-ever win over a top-five opponent.

“We came out ready to play,” UMass coach Angela McMahon said. “It could’ve been really easy to walk into this game being intimidated by BC, but I thought we took it to them. We were really aggressive, and I’m really proud of how we stepped up and took control of the game. I thought we were poised and confident, and so many people stepped up across the board.”

The Minutewomen (1-0) led 9-5 early in the second half, but the Eagles rallied to take a 10-9 with 13 minutes left to play. UMass scored six straight once BC took a 10-9 lead. Haley Connaughton and Stephanie Croke each scored twice. Kaitlyn Cerasi and Olivia Muscella had one apiece.
