High schools: Northampton runs away from West Springfield

The Northampton High School girls basketball team defeated West Springfield, 54-23, on Wednesday at West Springfield High School.

Amanda Mieczkowski scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Blue Devils (13-5, 4-3 Valley League). Jill McGrath chipped in 15 points.

Northampton made 10 3-pointers in the victory.

Hampden Charter 54, Smith Vocational 29 —Haleigh Pensivy scored a team-high 10 points for the Vikings (6-10, 4-4 Tri-County South). Ashley Schabacker and Morgan Roberts each chipped in four points.

Palmer 48, Hampshire Regional 42 — Maggie Rubeck finished with 16 points while Maddie Pond added 14, but the Panthers (8-8) held off the Raiders (11-7) in Westhampton.

Rubeck and Pond (eight steals) each had 10 rebounds. Delaney Marek had nine boards, while Katie Taylor blocked four shots.

Greenfield 44, Frontier Regional 37 —Marie Diemand scored a team-high 14 points for the Red Hawks (12-6, 3-3 Franklin North). Kaitlyn Mackin chipped in 10 points.

Duggan Academy 78, Smith Academy 40 —Aiden Pedersen scored a team-high 12 points for the Falcons (4-14). Caden Guimond chipped in nine points.

Renaissance 77, Easthampton 52 —Gabe Colenback scored 18 points (four 3s) for the Eagles (2-16). Sean Sabourin chipped in 10 points.

Baystate Academy 62, Hampshire Regional 59 —Justin Forest scored a game-high 21 points for the Raiders (7-11, 3-4 Bi-County East).

A run late in the fourth quarter from Baystate, coupled with Hampshire turnovers, doomed the Raiders.

“We had some costly turnovers down the stretch,” Hampshire coach Lee Mollison said. “We didn’t have enough time to close the gap. (Baystate) pressed a lot at half court.”
