Thanks to the Gazette for the great Hampshire Life article on older moms in the Valley (“This place has older moms,” Feb. 7.)

I became a mom at age 45. The process of trying for a child began two years previous to that. My desire was so intense and real that the hundreds of hours of research, paperwork and interviews did not deter me for one minute. Then there was the amazing trip to China to bring our daughter home.

There are many women in the Pioneer Valley who have adopted children as older parents. I could be wrong but my guess would be that they might even outnumber those who have had biological children later in life.

The means by which we “conceived” may be different, but all the issues of being older parents are just as real and interesting.

Including one of us in the article would have been a more realistic representation of older moms in this area.

The article was wonderful. It was just not complete.
