High schools: Frontier Regional pulls away from Hopkins Academy

Amelia Sobieski scored 23 points, and the Frontier Regional girls basketball team pulled away in the second half to beat Hopkins Academy 56-31 on Wednesday.

The Golden Hawks led 23-22 at halftime before the Red Hawks (14-6, 5-3 Franklin North) clamped down on defense. Marie Diemand added 14 for Frontier with one 3-pointer.

Thea Hanscom and Sara Beauchamp led the way for the Golden Hawks (12-8, 3-5 Franklin North) with nine and eight points, respectively. Gabrielle Palmisano grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with her three points.

Central 70, Holyoke 56 — Bianca Ortiz led the Purple Knights with 14 points in a home loss. Yamaya Perez added 12 points, and Destiny Calderon scored 10 for Holyoke (10-10, 3-5 Valley).

Yamaya Perez contributed 14 points, making 8 of 9 free throws.

Longmeadow 44, Northampton 39 — Amanda Mieczkowski led the Blue Devils (14-6, 4-4 Valley League) with 18 points. Emily Sledzieski added 10 points of her own.

Easthampton 44, Baystate 40 — Lauren Morse led the Eagles with 19 points while Nessrine Bentley had 11 points.

The Eagles (12-8) took the lead midway through the fourth quarter and held on after honoring Kyla Roy on her senior night.

Amherst Regional 56, Palmer 51 — Petua Mukimba paced the Hurricanes (15-5, 5-3 Central) with 21 points to end the regular season.

Erin Klaes added 13 points with three 3-pointers.

Smith Academy 47, McCann 37 — Emma Kelly and Karlie Guimond led the Falcons with 14 points each. Kelly also grabbed nine rebounds, while Ashley Fill added six.

Bailey McCoy totaled 11 points, including 5 of 6 at the free-throw line. She made 3 of 4 to extend the lead in the fourth quarter for Smith Academy (7-13, 3-5 Franklin West).

South Hadley 64, Palmer 43 — On Monday, Olivia Marion led South Hadley with 15 points. Kate Walas added 11 points on three 3-pointers.

Talia Uribe also had 11 points for the Tigers (9-11).

Frontier Regional 64, Southwick 40 — Peter Carey finished with 18 points, while Sean Richter added 13 as the Red Hawks (16-4) closed their regular season with the victory at home.
