HOLYOKE — Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting at Elm and Essex streets in which a man was shot in his right hand.

Holyoke Police Lt. James Albert said that law enforcement responded around 2:15 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to his right hand. He was transported to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Albert said the victim reported that a suspect had emerged from a blue Audi and began shooting at him as he ran away. He said investigators had found “numerous” shell casings at the scene. No arrests have been made.

Holyoke Police Criminal Investigations, as well as the Massachusetts State Police Ballistics Unit, are following up with witnesses and ask anyone with information to call police at 413-322-6940.

On Feb. 5, police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex a block away at Elm and Appleton streets in which one person was shot in the leg. That person was treated at Holyoke Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. It is unknown whether the two shootings are related.
