NORTHAMPTON — Burger King on King Street briefly stopped making food Friday after smoke filled the restaurant.
Assistant Fire Chief Jon Davine estimated that the fire department received the call before lunch at around 11:30 a.m., as the result of the building’s fire alarm going off.
He said the smoke was the result of the restaurant continuing to cook when it was replacing a fan.
“Filled the building with smoke,” he said.
Davine said the fire department alerted the board of health of the situation and left it with them.
At around 11:39 a.m. the Burger King closed food service, with an employee saying the hood vent wasn’t working properly. However, by at least midafternoon, food service had resumed.
The restaurant declined to comment about the shutdown.
