Once again, I’d like to acknowledge the excellent job our western Massachusetts Pioneer Valley Transit Authority and school bus drivers do on a daily basis. In all kinds of weather they drive. Constant, never-ending traffic, random street crossers, cellphone distractions, parked car doors suddenly opening — all obstacles to be aware of.
They are able to keep people safe and to it in a timely, somewhat predictable manner. Taking care of disabled folks, handling multiple language situations and always being exposed to some of our social ills and disparity, these drivers are often traveling along the roads of those who have who don’t have much.
In an area that seems so concerned about our environment, I would suggest at least an occasional ride or two to see what I mean. So thanks to Paula and Pablo, Cheryl and Jim and a host of so many familiar and anonymous faces that drive by all of us on a daily basis getting all sorts of people to their destinations.
And by the way, shouldn’t all kids ride free to our public schools?
