Democrats have become a party of the coasts, but to win the White House, we need a candidate who can carry the heartland and that person is Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. If we don’t win states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin this November, we won’t defeat Trump.
I’m proud to be supporting Sen. Klobuchar in the Massachusetts presidential primary on March 3. She has put forth a detailed and sensible plan for strengthening our small towns and rural communities, including bringing broadband to every household and business in the nation and expanding opportunities for rural small businesses, entrepreneurs and beginning farmers.
As a member of the UMass Extension Board of Public Overseers, I am pleased that Amy would reverse the deep cuts proposed by the Trump administration for agricultural research and extension services that include the forced closure of agricultural experiment stations and laboratories. She will also publish all government-funded studies on climate change conducted by in-house scientists in collaboration with our land-grant universities.
The Hilltowns are a federally designated Medically Underserved Area and a Health Professionals Shortage Area, and as president, Sen. Klobuchar would revise our Medicare rules to help rural hospitals stay open, provide expanded support to our critical access hospitals and community health centers, and dramatically expand tele-health services. She will also adjust Medicare’s geographic practice cost index to reflect the actual costs of providing health care in rural areas.
Amy gets things done: Amy Klobuchar has passed more than 100 bills as the lead Democrat, an incredible feat in our fractured political climate. A study by Vanderbilt University ranked her as the most effective Democrat in the last session of Congress, and it wasn’t even close.
Sen. Klobuchar has the experience, ability and grit to be a successful president for all the people. Please join me in voting for Amy Klobuchar in the Bay State’s primary on March 3.
