Stephen Burke and Severino Simeone each had three hits and three RBIs as the Amherst College baseball team opened its season with a 14-7 victory over Bowdoin, Monday at Memorial Field in Amherst.

Burke finished 3-for-4 with two walks. Simeone was 3-for-6. Kai Terada-Herzer and Daniel Qin each had two hits. Joseph Palmo hit a two-run homer.

Amherst scored six runs in the third to pull away.

Softball

Springfield 5, Amherst 2 — Autumn Lee had two hits, while Andrea Sanders and Megan Taketa each had one RBI for the host Mammoths (0-1), Monday.

Women’s diving

NCAA Zone A Diving — Maja Boric, of UMass, placed third on 1-meter at the championships held in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Boric scored 569.15 points. Teagan Moravek, of Virginia Tech, won with 618 points. Sydney Dusel, of Virginia, was second (610.5).

Boric is scheduled to compete on 3-meter Tuesday.
