The 17th-ranked UMass men’s lacrosse team stormed past LIU in the fourth quarter, sinking the Sharks, 14-10, at Garber Field on Tuesday.
The Minutemen trailed 9-6 late in the third quarter, but scored the game’s final six goals to win their fourth straight.
Devin Spencer and Chris Connolly scored the last two goals of the third to pulled UMass within 9-8.
Jake Gillis made it 10-8 for the Sharks with 12 minutes, 40 seconds left in the fourth, but the Minutemen (5-2) held LIU (1-6) scoreless from there.
Jeff Trainor tallied the first two goals for UMass in the fourth to tie the game at 10.
Matt Caddigan gave the Minutemen the lead with his first goal of the season. Trainor, Connolly and Billy Philpott found the net to close the game.
Trainor and Philpott each have 14 goals on the season.
UMass scored the first four goals of the game, but LIU rallied. The Sharks outscored the Minutemen 9-2 to take their biggest lead of the game.
Kevin Tobin and Connolly each had three assists. Trainor finished with four goals and an assist.
Matt Knote finished with 12 saves in the win.
Amherst College 16, Endicott 9 — Colin Minicus had four goals and four assists, while Dylan Peabody added three and two, respectively, as the Mammoths (3-1) rolled in Beverly.
Amherst College 25, Rivier 7 — The Mammoths went 23-for-43 at the plate with 23 RBIs and 10 walks in the route at home.
Stephen Burke was 4-for-4 with five runs and eight RBIs. He had a three-run homer, a three-run double and a two-run double.
Joseph Palmo was 3-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs. He opened the game with a three-run homer in the first.
Amherst native Javier Irizarry finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He had a three-run homer in the sixth.
William Murphy had three doubles, two runs and three RBIs.
NCAA Zone A Diving — Maja Boric, of UMass, finished eighth with 579 points in the 3-meter diving event in Morgantown, West Virginia.
