■In excess of 6,000 Easter Lily plants are again being grown in the Hadley greenhouses of Butler & Ullman for area retail stores Easter week. Joseph Weiner of Fruit St., Northampton, has cared for the plants since they were potted and grown in a greenhouse devoted solely to them.
■At the annual meeting of the board of directors of Hampshire Engineering Service, Inc., William A. Celatka was elected president of the company. He has been associated with Hampshire Engineering Service since Nov. 1967, as a sales engineer for the heating, air-conditioning and ventilating equipment installed by the company.
■With its final sale Saturday, and the auctioning yesterday of nearly 700 items related to railroads, model trains and collectibles, the tracks ended for Childs Toy and Hobbies, a specialty retail store that has been in Hampshire County for more than 40 years.
■The city auditor has appointed a new assistant, James W. Young of Northampton. Young, who begins work today, replaces Mary L. Connor, who retired Dec. 31 after 40 years in the position. Young was one of 39 applicants for the job.
■Local dancer Teddy Forance soared on stage Sunday at the 82nd annual Academy Awards show on ABC — appearing in a sequence that featured this year’s Oscar-nominated movie scores. Although Forance, who hails from Southampton, has a host of professional dance jobs already on his resume, he says dancing at the Oscars is the most exiting so far.
■A forum for parents of Northampton students and the community will take on two controversial topics Monday: bus fees and school starting and ending times. Faced with a $1.34 million budget gap next year, school officials will discuss options for bus routes, fees and schedules as they contemplate what transportation the district can afford to provide for students next year.
