Mayor David Narkewicz and the city of Northampton ought to remove or phase out Peter Pan Bus Lines from its downtown location because its cooperation policy with the border patrol agents puts residents at risk of harassment and worse (arrest and deportation).
The policy, in which Peter Pan allows law enforcement on its buses without a warrant, runs counter to the mayorโs executive order declaring Northampton a โsanctuary city,โ and is an invitation to a known rogue agency that relies on racial profiling. Students and families arrive and depart to our region via the bus service, as I did until now, and itโs the cityโs responsibility to warn its residents and visitors of the dangers at the center of downtown.
