SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health system has confirmed that it now has 17 patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease COVID-19.
As of Friday, Springfield-based Baystate has so far tested 377 people across the system, according to a statement from spokesman Keith J. O’Connor. Of those tests, 17 have been positive, 147 have been negative and 213 are still pending, O’Connor said.
The announcement comes after the state’s Public Health Department said Friday that a Suffolk County man in his 80s became the first casualty from COVID-19 in the state. The man had a pre-existing condition that put him at higher risk, according to the DPH statement.
“To date, 3,132 residents of Massachusetts have been tested for COVID-19 by the State Public Health Laboratory and commercial labs,” the DPH statement reads. “Of those, 328 people have tested positive.”
At Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, there are no confirmed COVID-19 inpatients, according to Christina Trinchero. There are currently five people who are either under investigation or awaiting test results, in addition to the two people who received positive results at the hospital earlier this week, she said.
Holyoke Medical Center has said it will not share those numbers with news reporters.
