NORTHAMPTON — Firefighters quickly extinguished a small house fire on Grant Avenue late Friday afternoon.

Northampton Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Andy Breen said firefighters were called to 54 Grant Ave. at 4:13 p.m. for a call by the homeowner of smoke from the rear exterior of the house.

When crews arrived, there was a small ground-level fire on the wall of the home that was burning the siding, Breen said.

Residents of the home evacuated and no one was injured, Breen said. The fire was extinguished with one hose line in minutes. Breen said there was an estimated $40,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by a fire investigation unit and a detective with the Northampton Police Department, according to Breen. He said the fire was not suspicious “in any way.”

Residents of the house were allowed to go back into their home, he said.
