LEVERETT — A resource phone line established in Leverett will ensure residents are having some of their needs met during the statewide stay-at-home order and while social distancing guidelines are in place.
Created by the Board of Health, the idea behind the phone line, which will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is to provide information to residents about services available, such as grocery and medicine deliveries and curbside pickup of those products.
Volunteers are being recruited to make these deliveries or pickups on behalf of residents. Other volunteers will be doing check-in calls for those who are isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barbara Tiner, who is helping to coordinate the effort, said a handful of people are in place to answer the phone and to run errands.
The number to call, activated Monday, is 413-345-5072. Messages can be left outside the four-hour window and will be returned the following day.
The resource line is not for medical emergencies. Anyone with symptoms of the novel coronavirus, or facing other medical issues, should call 911.
