NORTHAMPTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 1,296 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the state total to 28,163.

Hampshire County has 233 cases, an increase of 9 from Monday.

The state death toll is now at 957, with 113 new deaths reported.

The state has tested 126,551 people overall, with 4,502 tests conducted as of the Tuesday report.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital has reported that 12 inpatients have confirmed COVID-19 infections, including five patients in the intensive care unit. 

Twenty other patients, none of whom is hospitalized, are under investigation for COVID-19 infection. The hospital has had 154 people test positive to date.

Baystate Health is treating 165 inpatients for confirmed COVID-19 infections, including 27 patients in critical care units across all of its hospitals. Seven inpatients are being investigated for COVID-19 infection.

The hospital system has tested 2,927 people overall, with 672, or 22.9 percent, testing postiive; 2,239 testing negative; and 16 pending results.

Two-thirds of all Baystate patients with confirmed COVID-19 infections have either been discharged or never required admission: 182 were discharged home, 32 were discharged to subacute nursing facilities and 221 never required admission.
