NORTHAMPTON — The state Department of Public Health reported 1,940 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections on Thursday and 157 new deaths. There are now 62,205 confirmed cases statewide and 3,562 deaths.

The state reported 15 more cases and four more deaths in Hampshire County, resulting in 546 confirmed cases and 30 deaths. There are 257 cases and 37 deaths in Franklin County and 3,777 cases and 373 deaths in Hampden County.

Three veteran residents of the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home who had tested positive for the virus have died in the last two days, bringing to 71 the number of veterans at the home who have lost their lives to the pandemic since March 25. Another 11 veteran residents have died of other causes during that time.

Seventy-nine other veteran residents and 81 employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Overall, 6% of current cases in Massachusetts require hospitalization, and 1,001 people with the virus are in intensive care units.

The state has carried out 275,647 tests, 10,029 of which were new on Thursday.

Area hospitals

Cooley Dickinson Hospital is treating 14 inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 infection as of Tuesday, five of whom are in the intensive care unit.

An additional 70 outpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection. The hospital has had 443 people test positive overall.

Baystate Health is treating 108 inpatients for confirmed COVID-19 infection across all of its hospitals, including 14 patients in critical care units. Of those hospitalized, 101 are at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Twenty-seven inpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection.

Baystate has tested 6,250 people to date, with 1,121 results coming back positive, 5,034 negative, and 94 pending results.
