NORTHAMPTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 1,612 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections Friday and 150 new deaths. There are now 75,333 confirmed cases statewide and 4,702 deaths.

Overall, 4% of current cases in Massachusetts require hospitalization, and 826 people with the virus are in intensive care units.

The state has carried out 75,333 tests, 14,391 of which were new Friday.

The state has reported 654 confirmed cases and 48 deaths in Hampshire County, 289 cases and 41 deaths in Franklin County and 4,522 cases and 441 deaths in Hampden County. Among confirmed cases, the average age of death is 82, the average age of hospitalization is 68, and the average age of those infected is 53.

The state announced two new deaths among veteran residents, one of whom tested positive for COVID-19, at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, bringing the total number of deaths among residents to 87 over the course of the pandemic. Seventy-three of the residents who died tested positive for COVID-19, 13 tested negative, and one is unknown.

Overall, 78 veteran residents and 83 employees have tested positive.

Area hospitals

Cooley Dickinson Hospital is treating 11 inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 infection as of Friday, one of whom is in the intensive care unit.

An additional 50 outpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection. The hospital has had 555 people test positive overall.

Baystate Health is treating 85 inpatients for confirmed COVID-19 infection across all of its hospitals, including 13 patients in critical care units. Seventy-seven are hospitalized at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Twenty-eight inpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection.

Baystate has tested 8,253 people to date, with 1,342 results coming back positive, 6,821 negative, and 90 pending results.
