NORTHAMPTON — State public health officials reported 870 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday and 33 new deaths, the lowest number in more than a month.
There are now 79,332 confirmed cases statewide and 5,141 deaths.
Officials noted that the low number of deaths reported Tuesday could be affected by a shift to a later reporting deadline. With this change, some deaths that normally would have been included in Tuesday’s report were instead part of the Monday report. There were 129 deaths reported Monday
The number of daily cases also represents the second day in a row that fewer than 1,000 new cases have been confirmed in the commonwealth, following Monday’s report of 669 new cases.
The state had previously not reported fewer than 1,000 cases since early April. However, on both days, the state also tested fewer people than average compared to recent weeks.
