HOLYOKE — A city man was arrested after federal and local law enforcement executed a search warrant and found around 250 grams of heroin in the attic of a home on Cottage Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Brett Joseph Garcia, 33, was arrested after members of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration as well as the Holyoke Police Department’s Narcotics/Vice Unit were granted a federal search warrant at 8 Cottage Ave. around 1:15 p.m., according to Holyoke Police Lt. James Albert.

During the execution of that search warrant, Albert said, approximately 10,000 individual wax baggies containing a tan powder believed to be heroin were located in the attic by the Holyoke Police Department’s Narcotics K9 June. The gross weight of the heroin was approximately 250 grams, Albert said.

Garcia was placed under arrest for possession with intent to distribute heroin and transported to the Holyoke Police Station where he was courtesy booked, Albert said. Garcia will be federally charged, Albert said, and will be transported to the Hampden County Jail in Ludlow.  He will appear in U.S. District Court in Springfield on Wednesday, Albert said.
