Vawn Lord, of Amherst, was named co-male athlete of the year at Westfield State University.
The West Springfield High School graduate shared the honor with teammate Jauch Green Jr.
Green and Lord led the Owls men’s basketball team to the 2020 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
Lord finished the season with 19.2 points per game, which ranked third overall in the MASCAC. He was named to the All Conference first team, and ranked in the top 10 in the league for rebounds (6.7), and field goal percentage (47.8). Lord was at his best late in the year as the Owls vied for playoff position, scoring 35 points in a road win at Bridgewater State and posting a 44-point game in a win at Salem State.
Green finished the season with 18.6 points per game, which ranked fourth overall in the MASCAC. The senior also led the conference with 55 steals and ranked sixth in rebounds per game with 7.6.
For the second year in a row, Green was named as a member of the All-Conference First Team. After Westfield defeated Worcester State University, 81-77 in the MASCAC championship game, Green was named the tournament’s most valuable player, averaging 26 points throughout the tournament scoring 30 points in the final game.
Green scored more than 1,000 points in two years at Westfield State and netted more than 1,700 in his four years of collegiate basketball.
The Owls finished their season 20-8 overall and 10-2 in the conference, falling in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Middlebury College.
