■Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Casimir F. Jasinski of Adams, son of John Jasinski of Northampton, has been reassigned to the 1806th Support Squadron, Hickam AFB, Hawaii. Sgt. Jasinski reported to DESC from a tour of duty in Udorn Royal Thia AFB, Thailand, in July 1969.

■State Police Commissioner William F. Powers presented Trooper John H. Driscoll a 10-year honorable service medal at Troop B headquarters, Northampton recently. Trooper Driscoll resides with his wife, Deirdre, and family, in Whately. He is presently assigned to state police headquarters in Northampton.

■Northampton High School and the JFK Middle School are the newest city police beat. The School Committee on Thursday approved for one year a pilot project that will assign a “school resource officer” full time to cover both schools.

■The first episode of “The Police Report,” a cable television show produced by Northampton police officers, will air Thursday. Police Sgt. Brian Rust said the show, in the making for the past six months, will appear on Channel 2 and introduce Chief Russell P. Sienkiewicz to the community.

■A line of rapidly moving, intense thunderstorms hammered western Massachusetts overnight Wednesday, spurring a possible microburst in Hadley and causing several Pioneer Valley towns to declare states of emergency.

■Local businessman Juan Suarez is hoping to open Ibiza Tapas and Wine Bar on Strong Avenue in July. Construction crews Thursday were busy renovating the former home of Smokin’ Lil’s — a property that has been vacant since the barbecue joint closed in 2008.
