Outdoor facilities officially opened this week with the move into Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan.

In Amherst on Wednesday, recent high school graduates Bob Sun, Xiaoping Yu and Chang Jin spent time on the courts at Amherst Regional Middle School. Sun graduated from The Hartsbrook School in Hadley, while Yu and Jin from Amherst Regional.

Meanwhile, Jeff Schrenzel and Beth Rosen had the Coach Higgins Courts at Belchertown High School to themselves on Wednesday. They said they often practice with their son, Belchertown junior Benjamin Schrenzel – sometimes playing two against one – but he was home taking a math class. Benjamin is on the reigning Western Massachusetts champion Orioles’ tennis team, which missed its season this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
