■Mr. Steak restaurant has opened at 261 King St. in Northampton. Although steaks are featured, the new eatery has a varied menu and caters to families. The Northampton Mr. Steak is the 168th to open in the nation.
■Attorneys Kenneth B. Bowen and Andrew J. Siegal have announced the formation of a partnership under the name of Bowen & Siegal, to continue the general practice of law in offices located at 39 Main St., Northampton.
■The man named the state’s 1994 Young Entrepreneur of the Year — T-shirt magnate Eric Suher of Holyoke — has stepped up to buy the Iron Horse Music Hall and Coffee House. Suher, 30, has an agreement to purchase the 15-year-old club, which closed June 4, and holds a conditional lease for the 20 Center St. space.
■A $15.5 million school budget for 1995-96 was adopted by the School Committee last night. The budget includes the elimination of seven or eight positions, no new positions, virtually no increase in maintenance, nothing for new computers, and spending way below what’s needed, according to staff, on textbooks, library books and library supplies, among other things.
■Residents had the opportunity to weigh in on several proposed designs for improvements at Interstate 91’s Exit 19 as a consulting firm presented its most recent finding at a public meeting Monday night. The meeting involved a brief presentation of 12 different designs being considered by the Department of Transportation.
■William Taubman, an Amherst College political science professor, will receive one of the top civilian medals awarded by Russia this week. On Wednesday, Taubman, an Amherst resident, will receive the Order of Friendship from the Russian Consul General, who is making a trip to Amherst for the presentation.
