Little did I imagine that we would see yet another truck stuck under the railroad bridge in Northampton in my lifetime, but in the June 6 Gazette, there it is.
The cure for this fiasco has long been obvious. If one drives to the airport in Boston, one will see how the over-high vehicles are shunted away from danger. All the city of Northampton has to do is to set automatic barriers that will come down to deflect over-high vehicles. There will have to be two easterly on the break in King Street (one each north and south) and one long one well shy of Bridge Street School headed west.
I feel sure I advocated this many years ago, as have other and wiser observers. But one does feel that the city ought to stop fooling around and quit inviting unsuspecting truck drivers into this rabbit hole.
