NORTHAMPTON — Police arrested a city man Thursday morning after he allegedly stole a woman’s purse as she was sitting at the Pulaski Park bus stop.
Police responded to State Street in the area of Fly by Night at 9:53 a.m. for a report that a person had stolen a purse from a woman.
Northampton Detective Lt. Craig Kirouac said the 78-year-old woman was sitting at the bus stop with her purse in a shopping cart when 29-year-old Kyle Barboza, of the streets of Northampton, allegedly took her purse and ran.
A police officer eventually located Barboza on Main Street and apprehended him as he matched the suspect’s description, Kirouac said. A witness positively identified the suspect as the person who was involved in the robbery, according to Kirouac.
The woman’s purse was found behind an air conditioning unit on Button Street and her wallet was allegedly found on Barboza, Kirouac said.
Barboza was charged with larceny from a person over age 65 and was taken to Northampton District Court for booking.
