The 12U Valley Storm softball team closed out its Leominster Lassie League season with two wins at the Skirt in the Dirt event last weekend.

On Saturday, the Valley Storm swept the North County Spark in a doubleheader, winning 12-5 and 19-8. The wins were the Stormโ€™s last of the season, as they werenโ€™t able to record a victory on Sunday.

Kenzie Paulin and Maggie Fay pitched for the Valley throughout the weekend, with Paulin striking out 10 and earning a win over her 13 innings pitched, and Fay striking out 6 and earning a win over 10 innings pitched.

Hannah Gilbert led the offensive charge with 9 hits (double, triple, grand slam HR on Saturday) and 7 RBI. Paulin had 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Mel Ring (double), Fay, Amelia Pierce, and Kylee Gamache all had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Skyler Steele had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Cordelia Guerin had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Anna Bucala had a hit and 4 RBI, and Haly Doucette-Kaplan had a hit.

With the Leominster Lassie League season coming to a close, the team is holding tryouts for fall leagues over the next couple weeks. The 18U and 16U teams are holding tryouts this week, while the 14U and 12U teams are holding tryouts next week. All tryouts will be held at Murphy Park in Greenfield. In Sandy Koufax action on Sunday, Aug. 2, Brattleboro swept two games from Northampton by scores of 8-6 and 16-1, and Amherst defeated Frontier, 7-2.

Here are the standings for the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League. In the Koufax Division, Greenfield is undefeated at 10-0, followed by Amherst (6-3), Frontier (3-5), Brattleboro (3-7) and Northampton (1-8).

In the Mantle Division, Frontier is in first with a 9-2 record, followed by Mohawk (8-3), Hatfield 6-5, Northampton (2-7) and Brattleboro (1-9).
