■Mrs. Audrey Bozzo, R.N., of Florence, has been appointed nursing supervisor of the intensive care unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. A 1952 graduate of Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs. Bozzo has held various positions at the hospital, the most recent, an instructor in the School of Nursing.
■Northampton Police still do not know who left six sticks of dynamite bundled together in what appears to be a bomb in woods near Burts Pit Road. Police were notified of the bundle yesterday when a group of children playing in the area found the dynamite sticks wrapped in a plastic bag and brought them home to their mother.
■Northampton has hired the director of Longmeadow’s Recreation Department to replace Jan Joseph, the outgoing assistant recreation director. Cathleen Buntin, 36, of Charlemont, will begin her new post in Northampton Sept. 11.
■The Hampshire Regional YMCA has hired a new manager to oversee its programs. David Micka, formerly student activities director at Springfield College, will begin work at the YMCA Sept. 11. Micka has also worked as a manager of recreational facilities for the Williston-Northampton School in Easthampton.
■In its continued quest to revitalize an eyesore on the city’s main commercial strip, the owner of the former Hill & Dale Mall on King Street envisions bank or fast-food restaurant in addition to its plans to renovate the site’s existing structure for commercial use. The Colvest Group this week applied for a special permit to build a 4,440-square-foot structure using part of the parking lot close to King Street.
■Don’t be surprised to see pumpkins, Indian corn and winter squashes peeking out from between the summer produce at local farm stands. Thanks to the warm spring and hot, dry summer that settled on the Valley this year, local farmers are beginning to harvest their late season crops weeks ahead of schedule.
